Thai Parliament hosts 4th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Caucus

BANGKOK, 30 April 2012  - Thailand's Parliament is hosting an international meeting of parliamentarians from 10 ASEAN nations, which focuses on the region's readiness to handle natural disasters.

 

The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Caucus is being held at Imperial Queen's Park Hotel in Bangkok, beginning on April 30th and running till May 3rd.

The Senate Speaker, General Teeradej Meepien, said the meeting helps tightening relationships among ASEAN members and expanding cooperation with other regions as well.

General Teeradej added the main discussion topics at this year's meeting include the update on the implementation of AIPA, the presentation on each country's disaster management program and draft laws on disaster management as well as the establishment of the AIPA Caucus Group of Parliamentarians

This year, Opposition Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has been appointed AIPA Chairman.
