BANGKOK, 22 March 2011 (NNT) – The medical team sent to help earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan has returned to Thailand while the other team overseeing the victims’ mental health will proceed with its tasks in the devastated country.

Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit reported that the Ministry’s team of doctors and nurses earlier dispatched to Japan had arrived back home after completing its mission to provide physical treatment for people injured in the recent powerful earthquake and tsunami disaster. He said Japan’s medical service system had been able to resume and all Thai nationals were in healthy conditions.

Meanwhile, the team of psychiatrists will remain in Japan for the time being as some of the victims have been found to suffer from stress and anxiety. However, none of them has worrying symptoms.

So far, 298 people with concerns about the nuclear radiation leakage in Japan have sought help from the consultancy center set up by the Public Health Ministry at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Another 112 people have used the service at Phuket International Airport.
