Thai Embassy in Japan sends letter of condolence to family of cyclist killed by Thai driver

BANGKOK, 20 August 2014 – The Thai Embassy in Japan has officially expressed condolences to the family of the Japanese cyclist who was killed by a car driven by a Thai driver last week. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Sek Wannamethee said that the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo has already sent a letter of condolence to the family of the victim of a fatal car accident, which involved a vehicle driven by one of three intoxicated Thais.

Mr. Sek said that the letter was sent through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The accident, which has caused an uproar among Japanese, also critically injured another person.

Mr. Sek added that the Thai Embassy has informed Japan’s Foreign Ministry that it would like to exercise its rights under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to meet with all three Thai men who have been arrested for drunk driving.

He said that Thailand will work closely with Japanese authorities to follow up on the case.
