BANGKOK, 16 October 2014  While the government is trying to stimulate domestic business productivity, Bang Phlat district has come up with a project to stimulate job promotion. Tang Hua Seng Department store in Bang Phlat District, Bangkok, from today until the 26th October 2014, is organizing the 21st Annual Handicraft fair, offering free handicraft workshops to any one interested to join in.

The event was presided by Tang Hua Seng President, Viroj Chunprathipthong, Handicraft Division Director, Chariya Chunprathipthong, and Bang Phlat District Assistant Director Tanakorn Chaisri. Starting today the event offers over 50 FREE workshops such as crochet, knitting, silk weaving and leather bag making, soap carving, Paper Mache, Glass and Wood painting, and sewing pretty quilts for anyone keen to attend. These workshops provide anyone interested to acquire the skills to turn regular thread, cloth, plastics, and other materials into handmade masterpieces, adding tremendous value, and adding extra income for any individual wanting to sell their own products.

This year’s highlight is the Afgan Crochet, a weaving style that combines regular crochet and knitting styles together by using knitting wool and thread together. It will turn out to be a really warm item of clothing, fit for the winter season, which is the reason Afgan Crochet is very popular in Europe.

The Handicraft Division Director, Mrs. Chariya Chunprathipthong said that 20 years ago, anyone who was interested in learning a handicraft had to enroll in a school. Now by organizing such an activity people can freely learn handicraft techniques, which will also help to support handicraft career prospects.

Mrs. Chariya also added that to make this year’s workshop special they are bringing in knitting specialists from Japan, to be instructors during the fair, and they will only be in Thailand for a 5 day period. She stressed that all lessons are free of charge, and all each person needs is the determination to learn. They shouldn’t worry about anything as all lessons will be taught step by step, and participants are sure to learn how to do it.

This annual fair gains much attention; Mrs. Chariya revealed that in past years, over ten thousand people have participated during the fair, and she expects that this year there will be an increase of another 10%.

The public is invited to participate in this free workshop, as the knowledge acquired may help to provide an alternative way to generate income. The event runs for a 10-day period starting today (16 October) to 26th October 2014, on 5th floor, Tang Hua Seng Department store.
