Sukhumbhand to run for second term as Bangkok Governor

BANGKOK, 20 August 2012  – Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra has announced that he will run in the next gubernatorial election under the Democrat Party banner. 

Talking about working with the press, M.R. Sukhumbhand said conflicts with the media do occur sometimes; but he has never attempted to interfere with the press freedom. He admitted calling news executives to explain misinterpreted reports and receiving good response from the journalists. He asked the press to be neutral and reasonable, as impartial news reports could help him win another Bangkok governor election.

The governor said if elected for the second term, he will push for another Halal Kitchen Project in Sirindhorn Hospital to draw in more Middle East visitors, given many of them travel to Thailand to get medical service. He said once the project kicks start, it will help stimulate the capital’s economy and generate more income for the Muslims. The Halal Kitchen Project has been successfully launched at Nong Chok Hospital.

M.R. Sukhumbhand also promised to push ahead with his plan to build a hospital for the elderly in Bangkhuntien District, and ensured that various development projects he has initiated will be carried out to completion if he is re-elected.
