BANGKOK, Dec 5 - The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) today initiated use of a historic steam locomotive running and carrying passengers from Bangkok to Chachoengsao, southeast of Bangkok.

Meanwhile, SRT Deputy Governor Viroj Triempongpan presided over the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition at Hua Lamphong Railway Station to honour His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on his 86th birthday today.

The exhibition, held until December 13, comprises more than 100 pictures of His Majesty and royal family members visiting their subjects and travelling by train from 1950-1988 to different parts of the country.

After the exhibition, some of the pictures will be held at each station where the King and the royal family arrived.

The State Railway also prepared 999 small photos of His Majesty to give away as souvenir to the public who sign their names and participate in the candle-lighting ceremony this evening to offer blessings for the King on his birthday at Bangkok's Hua Lamphong Station. (MCOT online news)
