Sriracha man tempts karma with Buddhist shrine burglary

A Sriracha man faces more than bad karma after being arrested for burglarizing the donation box at a Pattaya Beach Buddhist shrine.

Narai Samniangprao, 28, was caught by police around 1 a.m. May 20 using a hammer, wrench and screwdriver to pry open the donation box at the King Taksin shrine across from the intersection of Beach Road and Soi 6. Also confiscated was his Honda motorbike with sidecar, which had been reported stolen in Sriracha.

Police said Narai confessed to breaking into the donation box not once, but twice. Previously, he said, he took 14,750 baht from the box.

Narai told police he was using the money to buy underground lottery tickets.
