A Sattahip man whose estranged wife spurned his attempt to reconcile apparently hung himself to death.

The body of Boonsong Nopawong, 56, was found inside his locked home Jan. 2. He had used electrical cords to hang himself from a ceiling beam.

Wife Thanaporn Mathep burst into tears when she arrived at the scene.

In a letter left near the body, Boonsong asked for forgiveness and wished his estranged wife a happy life on her own.

Thanaporn told police they had been together for 31 years but he fell ill and could not work. She said he was very jealous and suspicious of her time away from home and they argued often.

After a particularly heated argument New Year’s Day, they decided to separate and he left home. But that morning he came back to ask her forgiveness. She refused to take him back and left the house.
It was the last time she saw him alive, she told police.
