The International Society of Tropical Pediatrics (ISTP) was initiated in 1987 with the objective to expand the tropical disease control network for children worldwide. The first ISTP conference was held in Thailand from 8-12 November in 1987 with the support of the Pediatrics Society of Thailand and The Faculty of Medical Medicine, Mahidol University as well as UNICEF and SEAMEO TROPMED.

The ISTP conference is held tri-annually and alternately in a member country. In 2008, the Office of Thailand Chapter of the International Society of Tropical Pediatrics (TCISTP) had been established and is located at the Faculty of Medical Medicine, Mahidol University.

The TCISTP will host the 9th conference at the Sirikit Convention Center from 18 to 10 October this year. There will be a plenary session and a symposium as well as a series of presentation from students, teachers, scientists and researchers from various organizations in and outside of Thailand.

The conference will serve as a platform for participants, who are doctors, medical students and scientists, to exchange information and ideas about tropical pediatrics. The outcomes of this event are expected to be the rise in academic corporations between nations and the support from the government for Thailand to host international academic forums.

Over 1,000 people are expected to participate in this conference. They are coming from the field of medical science, as lecturers, scientists, doctors, public health officers and university representatives from Thailand and overseas.
