Soldiers dredge canals in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 14 February 2012 – The army has sent 320 engineering military personnel and trucks to dredge canals in Bangkok as a flood prevention effort. 

Seventy canals, which were flooded last year, are being dredged. The second army region has sent 320 military officers, 48 GMC trucks and 32 backhoe trucks from Nakhon Ratchasima province to Bangkok for the mission.

Under the government’s flood prevention program, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is cooperating with the army in dredging canals and unclogging sewers across the capital.

The military personnel have also been assigned to dredge canals in Minburi and Nong Jok districts.
