Singapore defense chief understands Thai political situation

BANGKOK, July 23 —  Singapore’s supreme commander understands the Thai political situation and expressed a readiness to boost bilateral ties with Thailand after talks with the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) chief today.

During his meeting with NCPO leader General Prayuth Chan-ocha, Singapore Chief of Defense Forces Air Marshal Ng Chee Meng was told of Singapore’s importance as one of Thailand’s closet allies, a close partner in every aspect of cooperation.

The NCPO chief explained the current political situation in Thailand and asked Singapore to support Thailand during its process to create a lasting democratic system in the country.

Additionally the NCPO chief asked the Singaporean supreme commander to encourage more Singaporeans to visit Thailand as a way to aid Thailand into further recovery.

In response, Air Marshal Ng Chee Meng said he hoped Thailand would pass through this phase with courage, strength and success.

Singapore is ready to fully cooperate with Thailand, he said, especially regarding military cooperation, as Thailand and Singapore have always had a strong and lasting bond.

The supreme commander vowed to expand military training and exercises between both countries in the future.
