Senators express support for martial law

BANGKOK, 20 May 2014  – Senators have expressed their support for the Army to invoke martial law in order to end the political turmoil.

Senator General Somjet Boonthanom said that Army Chief Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha made the right decision to declare martial law, as he believed that it would prevent any violence from further escalating.

A meeting has been held today (May 20th) at 10AM at the Parliament building in order to prepare a report before presenting it to Mr. Surachai Liangboonlertchai, the First Vice-President of the Senate, who is also the Acting President of the Senate at the moment for consideration. A public announcement will be held on May 21st regarding this matter.

Senator Mr. Wichan Sirichai-ekawat said that the meeting would be focused on find solutions to end the dispute among Senators. The meeting has not been postponed at this point and the results are expected to be announced after the discussion.
