BANGKOK, 2 May 2014  — The First Vice-President of the Senate expressed his concerns that the Senate does not an active chairman at this point, which will adversely affect the government’s executive branch.

Surachai Liengboonlertchai, the First Vice-President of the Senate, stated that if a chairman cannot be elected, then the government’s executive branch cannot function and perform its daily work as smoothly as it has done.

He went to say that he would let the Senate meeting proceed as usual, but stressed the fact that the senate would quickly need to elect a new chairman.

Mr. Surachai also stated that he personally thought the new chairman does not need to come from Senator elections but needed to be someone who is not involved in politics in order to resolve the current political rift.
