Parliament President Somsak Kiartsuranont, who chairs the committee tasked with the construction of the new Parliament building, revealed that the Thursday committee meeting has agreed to cancel the current committee and to set up 2 new committees to oversee the construction project.
The two committees include a construction directing committee, which Mr. Somsak will be chairing, and an advising committee, which will be chaired by First Vice President of the Senate Nikom Wairatpanij.
The Parliament President said that the meeting has also resolved to set the construction timeframe of 900 days and the budget of 12.287 billion baht for the new Parliament building construction, an adjustment from the previous timeframe of 1,200 days and the budget of 11.462 billion baht.
Mr. Somsak stated that the changes are within the committee’s discretion, as stated by an earlier Cabinet resolution.
Under this new plan, the committee decided to look for a new contractor, which will be selected from a pool of interested and eligible companies, based on the original Terms of Reference (TOR).
According to the Parliament President, 4 companies have submitted their proposals to the committee, including Italian-Thai Development Plc, Sino-Thai Enginerring & Construction Plc, Syntec Construction Plc and Power Line Engineering Plc.
Mr. Somsak expects the selection of the construction company to be completed by the beginning of December and the actual construction to begin by January 2013.
