It turned out the 87-year-old grandmother had not wandered far from home. She was living with her niece, Kanokporn Charonesuk, 37, further down Soi Sukhumvit 83.

Kanokporn told police she had been caring for Tong for many years and the woman suffered from dementia and spent much of her time talking about her 64-year-old son who lives in Ayutthaya. Today was not the first time she had wandered away to find him.

Previously, the woman scaled a fence to get out and, this time, she left while Kanokporn was sleeping. The niece said she wanted to report her aunt missing, but police required she wait 24 hours before filing a missing person’s report.
