The Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya’s 9th Cross-Bay Swim gets underway Nov. 25 with fun, short- and long-distance races for children’s charities.

Club President Dieter Reigber and Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh laid out details of the annual event at a Nov. 16 press conference.

The 600-meter “fun swim” from the Hard Rock Cafe to Central Festival Pattaya Beach begins at noon, as well as the competitive “short” 1.2-kilometer swim to the Dusit Thani Hotel. The main event, a 3.5-kilometer swim from the Siam Bayshore Hotel’s beach, gets underway at 2 p.m.

Rotarians and safety officials meet with Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh to plan out this year’s Rotary Cross-Bay Swim. Rotarians and safety officials meet with Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh to plan out this year’s Rotary Cross-Bay Swim.

Funds raised by swimmers go to help Pattaya’s youth and disabled, including health care and scholarships. The Rotary’s Children’s Fund, in the past, has supported the project including clean water for schools and family homes.

Pattaya City Hall will help organizers by providing marine rescue officers and civil-defense volunteers along the race route. Buoys will be set to guide swimmers and keep watercraft out of the area. Sawang Boriboon Foundation medics will be available via jet skis for emergencies.

Pre-swim ceremonies get underway at 11 a.m. and awards will be presented at 6 p.m. at Central Festival.
