BANGKOK, 27 February 2013 With days of inundation yet to come to an end, the Public Health Ministry has sent more medical assistance to flood-hit Phatthalung.

Permanent Secretary for Public Health Dr. Narong Sahametapat revealed on Tuesday that 4 districts of Phatthalung Province have been hit by flash and wild floods, as of February 24.

The inundation has affected the districts of Srinagarindra, Kong Ra, Khuan Khanun and Mueang Phatthalung, where more than 10,500 residents live, according to Dr. Narong.

In order to help those troubled by the deluge, the Permanent Secretary for Public Health said that mobile medical teams from the Phatthalung Health Office and the Khuan Khanun Hospital have been dispatched to areas, where flood water remain 30-60 centimeters deep.

In addition, the ministry has instructed all health offices in flood-affected areas in 8 southern provinces, including Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Trang and Satun to always stay ready to provide medical service and to send out mobile as well as emergency teams to help people, who may be in need, around the clock.

Dr. Narong also urged officials and residents in flooded zones to continue to watch out for the possible spread of Leptospirosis for at least another 15 days after the water has completely come down.

He added that residents in all at-risk areas who experience acute flu, severe headache or muscle pain, particularly around calves, thighs and back, are advised to immediately seek medical attention.
