Deputy Public Health Minister Surawit Khonsomboon told health personnel to place an emphasis on food safety in hope to create a healthy society for Thai people.
Nutritious and hygienic food will help prevent people from five deadly diseases, including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
According to Mr Surawit, all related organizations will integrate their works to ensure hygienic food production from farm to table. Fresh markets, wholesale centers, street stalls, and hospital and school canteens will be strictly monitored and checked on their safety standards.
The Public Health Ministry reported over 1.4 million patients who suffered from digestive diseases in 2011, indicating that unclean food is a big problem the nation has to tackle.
