Speaking while in Mozambique, the Prime Minister said she has instructed the Transport and Interior Ministers to urgently survey the damage and repair the famous Saphan Mon wooden bridge in Sangkhla Buri district, Kanchanaburi province which has been torn apart by strong currents. The Prime Minister also asked the two ministers to report back the flood situation in Mae Sot district, Tak province.
In the meantime, Director General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Mr. Chatchai Promlert said that continuous and heavy rains have caused severe flooding in 7 provinces, namely Tak, Nan, Sakon Nakhon, Kanchanaburi, Chiang Rai, Phayao and Prachin Buri. He said the May River in Tak has overflowed its banks and spilled into nine sub-districts of Mae Sot. In the affected residential areas, the water level is as high as 2 meters, while in other areas the water is still high at 50-100 centimeters. Floods have also sent many roads to collapse, making them impassable. Government units concerned are trying to open the roads in order for assistance to reach the residents.
