PRD holds 60th anniversary Thai TV celebration

BANGKOK, 24 June 2015 – The Public Relations Department (PRD) along with the related agencies hosted the celebrate event for the 60 year anniversary of the first television broadcast in Thailand.

The PRD’s Director-General Apinan Juntarungsri presided over the 60 years anniversary celebrations for the broadcast of the ‘Channel 4 Bangkhunphrom’, the first TV station in Thailand, at the PRD auditorium in cooperation with the Television Support Association, the Chamnong Rangsikun Foundation, and the Archives Association of Thailand.

The PRD Director-General has said that Thai television services has seen many changes from its first broadcast since 1955. At present television broadcasts are entering the digital platform, while the medium is still a form of media that is critical to the perception of the public.

He then stressed on the consumption of information, saying that the content should contain valuable information along with entertainment. The viewers, who are the receivers, should sort out the information they consume and choose beneficial information for themselves, the society, and the nation.

Activities in the 60th anniversary Thai TV celebration event includes a dialogue on ’60 Years Thai TV: From Analog to Digital TV’, a debate on whether new generation TV workers are working more conveniently, along with the talk and screening of the first Thai TV drama, broadcasted for the first time back in 2 August 1976.
