Director General of the Public Relations Department Apinan Juntarungsri said, after the opening ceremony of the 2013 Student Loan event, that the government has always placed its emphasis on improving the country's education system. As Thailand is to enter the ASEAN Community in 2015, he said Thai students need to urgently improve their language skill, especially English.
He added that education needs to be provided at the same level to all students in all areas of the country and this is why the Student Loan Fund has been established. It acts as a source of educational funds for Thai students whose parents cannot afford high school and university education for them.
The director further revealed that the government, each year, allocates over 30 billion baht to the Student Loan Fund. However, some of the money borrowed by the students does not come back to the fund. Therefore, the PRD is cooperating with the Fund to create conscience among the students, so that they will repay their debts.
