A 24-year-old man pouting over not being given more money by his grandmother for video games killed himself in his second apparent suicide attempt in two weeks in Sattahip.

The body of Nut Padungpol, 24, was found sitting upright in a chair, a thick plastic bag tied around his neck in his grandmother’s Baan Udomsak house. He’d been dead about 12 hours.

The grandmother, identified as Yupa, 65, said she has cared for Nut and his brother while their mother worked overseas. Her daughter sends 8,000 baht a month to help her cover costs, but told police that Nut was addicted to online gaming and continually asked for more money.

Yupa said she finally put her foot down, saying she had no more cash to give him. In addition, his mother “punished” him by refusing to talk with him until he changed his attitude.

Instead, Yupa said, Nut got extremely depressed, crying that no one would take care of him if/when his grandmother died. On May 24, he tried to kill himself, she said.

He was saved following that attempt, but no one was home when he tried again. He wasn’t found in his room until the next day.
