Top police commanders reassured Russian, Chinese and Indian diplomats that a high-season crackdown is reducing crimes against tourists in Pattaya.

Royal Thai Police advisor Gen Wuthi Liptapanlop, Regional 2 commander Lt. Col. Vinai Thongsong and Chonburi station head Maj. Gen. Khatcha Thatsart, met with foreign-embassy representatives Jan. 28.

Wuthi told the diplomats that the first three weeks of the month-long crime sweep has seen criminal incidents decrease 90 percent. Officers have stopped 7,000 cars and motorbikes in road checkpoints, making hundreds of drug and weapons arrests.

The police officials were not asked what would happen once the high-profile crackdown ends this weekend.
