BANGKOK, 28 March 2012 – Security forces are ready to assure safety of visitors to the 2012 Red Cross Fair, which is due to kick off on Friday.

Police Major General Pachara Bunyasit, commander of the Metropolitan Police Division 1, said that a total of 7 companies of plain clothes and uniformed police, or around 1,000 officers, have been assigned to station at the annual Red Cross Fair 2012 in Bangkok, during March 30th and April 7th.

As a preparation, the pictures of 45 Vietnamese and Cambodian nationals suspected of petty theft and pickpocketing will be posted at the fair entrances to remind fair-goers to be cautious while enjoying themselves at the event.

Police Major General Pachara said that 27 pickpockets were arrested during the 2011 Red Cross Fair.

For this year, the Metropolitan Police Division 1 commander is urging fair visitors to beware of their belongings and to alert security officers if they encounter any suspicious activities, throughout the fair hours and period.
