Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DDPM) Director-General Wiboon Sanguanpong said that the recent heavy rain in several parts of Thailand has caused severe flooding in many provinces.
Mr. Wiboon said all DDPM offices in related provinces and respective provincial governors have been urged to speedily provide assistance to those in need.
According to the DDPM chief, the northern region has seen the most serious disaster, with at least one of its rail tracks hit by mudslide resulting in the suspension of train service.
However, the State Railway of Thailand has started the repair works, and it is expected to be ready for service again soon.
Mr. Wiboon added that the Prime Minister has expressed her worries and inquired about the latest situation as well as instructed the Interior Ministry and related offices to assist those who have been affected without delay.
