A Government House release said both parties were pleased with cordial relations and ongoing cooperation between the two countries, as well as regular exchange of visits of the high level officials, particularly an upcoming state visit of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia during September 2-5, 2013.
PM Yingluck and the Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister also discussed the authentication of fingerprints for people of dual nationalities to identify those who might have a link with the Southern border insurgency. PM Yingluck added that the Thai Government was well aware that Malaysia’s implementation of this matter might take time since it is politically sensitive. She, however, called for the Malaysian Government to hold the 2nd meeting of joint committee for the cooperation on dual nationals in order to seek solutions for the matter.
On labor cooperation, PM Yingluck thanked the Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister, in his capacity as Chair of Cabinet Committee on Foreign Worker and Illegal Immigrants, for its approval to issue work permits for Thai workers from the southern border provinces to work legally at Thai restaurants in Malaysia. On cooperation related to the Southern border insurgency, the Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister commended the Thai Government on initiating the peace talks with the BRN which should stop violence and bring peace to the Thai-Malay border areas.
Both parties also came to terms on further promotion of mutual trade and investment, and congratulated the 1st meeting of Thailand-Malaysia Business Council where the Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister will give an opening speech on August 23, 2013. Educational collaboration would be further promoted as well through exchanges of human resources in education and the dispatch of Malaysian teachers to teach Malay language to Thai students. Both parties also lauded the progress of Thai-Malay cooperation in halal industry, and would assigned concerned agencies to discuss on further development of the cooperation.
