After the fire raged on for a full week, the fire fighting teams deployed at Samut Prakan’s Praekkasa dump site have managed to successfully put out the flames even though smoke can still be seen spewing out from some spots. Authorities still continue spraying water into the air to help reduce pollution and toxic chemicals.
In a bid to follow up the situation, Prime Minister Yingluck today traveled to the dumping ground. She had a meeting with relevant officials at the Bang Pu Recreation Center, with a view to laying down rehabilitation plans for the locals who had fallen ill from smoke inhalation and finding long-term measures to prevent such a catastrophe from happening again.
During the discussion, the premier was briefed by the Samut Prakan governor on the latest development of the fire incident and the initial assistance given to the residents. She expressed her appreciation to all officials involved in putting out the blaze while asking them to unite for an ongoing effort to protect landfills across the country from future fires.
