BANGKOK, 15 July 2013 Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has urged those who know the whereabouts of manufacturers of sub-standard rice to report to the police while expressing her hope for the end of negative rumors about the quality of Thai rice.

Ms. Yingluck said although there might have been a few errors in the production of rice at some rice mills and packaging plants, people should not believe rumors and jump into conclusion that Thai rice as a whole is contaminated.

The Prime Minister asked every sector to help restore the confidence in Thai rice and urged the media to be fair in presenting news in order to avoid damaging Thailand’s reputation as the producer of high-quality rice.

The premier stressed that there will be legal consequences for those starting rumors. As for the discovery of rotten rice by the Opposition, she said the government needs to take some time to investigate the matter.
