BANGKOK, 14 April 2011 (NNT) – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has encouraged all Thai people to develop the family unit as a tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej upon his seventh cycle birthday anniversary.

In his message issued on the National Family Day, 14 April 2011, the prime minister elaborated that the family unit is an important basic institution of the society which educates and cultivates the Thai population from the very fundamental level into a strong nation with sustainable stability.

Prime Minister Abhisit indicated that the Thai society has been giving importance to the family institution. The cabinet on 13 February 1990 designated 14 April as the National Family Day to urge people to realize the key role of families.

The prime minister added that the government has been cooperating with religious, educational and other social sectors in promoting family values as a way to create ethical, strong and self-dependent families. He said the government has also been monitoring social impact on children and youth as well as supporting production of creative media to open more space for teens to demonstrate their ability.

Prime Minister Abhisit then encouraged Thai people to strengthen their families as a tribute to HM the King upon his seventh cycle birthday anniversary by performing their duties well, giving love to each other and following the sufficiency economy philosophy of HM the King for a strong and secure society.
