BANGKOK, 15 August 2011 – The Pheu Thai-led government is preparing to arrange a weekly television show for Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to elaborate policies, national situation and problems to people.

Prime Minister’s Office Minister overseeing the mass media Medical Doctor Surawit Khonsomboon stated that the television programme will also be broadcast live via radio, and that preparations are now in progress. He confirmed that the show will not be used as a government mouth piece or to interfere with the operation of the media.

Medical Doctor Surawit explained that the weekly program will provide a channel for the government to explain its operational framework in education, tourism and narcotic solutions. He added that the opposition will be allowed to host a similar weekly programme.

Moreover, Medical Doctor Surawit said he will seek talks with cable television stations with clear political preference such as the People’s Alliance for Democracy and the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship, to discuss how each channel should present news and facts to people.

Similar approach will also be made to producers of the notorious ‘Klai Pom’ program being broadcast on the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand, or Channel 11, under the supervision of the Department of Public Relations.
