PM holds meeting to deal with southern flood situation

BANGKOK, 26th October 2013 Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra chaired a VDO conference meeting monitoring the flood crisis situation in the southern region of Thailand. 

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi, who is the chairman of the Water Flood Management Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Niwatthamrong Bunsongphaisan, Deputy Commerce Minister Natthawutthi Saikuar, and Suranan Vejjajiva, Secretary General to the Prime Minister and provincial governors of the 14 southern provinces.

Mr.Plodprasop stated that the flood situation was much more severe than last year’s. The Government has prepared 9 flood management procedures such as a 7-10 day early report from the Meteorological Department, and an expanded warning system from the National Disaster Warning Center. Other measures call for officials to proceed with emergency relief operations without having to wait for orders, and the stationing of military personnel to support the relief operations.

Weather forecasts said a depression and perhaps a storm will hit Thailand during the 28th-30th November, affecting the lower part of the southern region. The public are urged to monitor the situation closely.
