BANGKOK, Aug 29 — Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha on Friday told Thailand’s army officers to be proud of serving the country and also asked them to stay united, loyal to the monarchy and to stay as good model to the people.

National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) leader and army chief Gen Prayuth, who is now forming his cabinet, said while presenting awards to outstanding army officers that the Royal Thai Army has displayed positive history since its official founding 105 years ago, and that every soldier should work for the good of all because they are considered as the “army family.”

Gen Prayuth also presided at the religious ceremony to mark the 28th anniversary of the opening of Army headquarters on Rajdamnoen Avenue.

He asked the army to be prepared for the implementation of ASEAN Community (AC), due to start on January 1, 2016, and also to help build the new generation to be proud of being Thai, which has a long history of dignified custom and culture.

Acknowledging that every soldier is now tired in working for the country, Gen Prayuth said soldiers must, however, continue working and resolving problems confronting Thailand.

“The army chief remains the same person no matter before or after May 22, 2014. The army chief is still the same old Gen Prayuth, no matter where he stays,” said Gen. Prayuth.

On May 22 this year Gen Prayuth led the military in overthrowing the government of then Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, which was accused of massive corruption and nepotism.
