PM appoints Apirat Kongsompong as the new GLO chief

BANGKOK, 3 May 2015 – Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday appointed Major General Apirat Kongsompong as the new Chairman of the Government Lottery Office.

Maj. Gen. Apirat currently serves as Deputy Commander of Region 1 Army and is also a member of the National Legislative Assembly.

The Prime Minister also appointed to the Lottery Office Metropolitan Police Bureau Deputy Commander Police Major General Suwat Jeangyodsuk, Chief of the 2nd Infantry Battalion’s 11th Infantry Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Noon Sansanakhom, and Economic and Business Forecast Center Director at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce Thanawat Polwichai.

The main objective of the new Government Lottery Office board is to address the long-drawn issue of overpriced lottery tickets.

The government has in the past enforced to no avail several measures to control to price of lottery ticket at 80 baht each. The new board is expected to impose harsher punishment on offenders and enforce more stringent regulations to prevent lottery ticket price gouging.
