Consultants planning the construction of subterranean bypass tunnels in north and central Pattaya will spend another three months studying traffic and environmental issues before presenting their final designs to the city.

At a Nov. 7 meeting at City Hall, Pattaya Permanent Secretary Pakorn Sukhonthachat and Engineering Department representatives met with executives from Bunpunya Technology Co. and Integrated Engineering Consultant Co. to review their progress on traffic and environmental impact reports.

The consultants presented an overview of their initial work to review soil types and water flow that could affect the tunnels meant to run under Sukhumvit Road at the intersections of North Road and Thepprasit Road.

They said their environmental analyses will look at the impact before, during and after construction. Traffic issues were also examined, including the impact months (or years) of construction would have on busy Sukhumvit Road.

The companies said the final reports will be presented in about three months. In the interim, another public hearing will be held to take more comments from those affected by the project.
