It was high season again for four days as Pattaya filled with tourists for the long Buddhist Lent weekend.

Cars jammed Sukhumvit Road and the three major arteries into the city over the July 27-30 weekend, which included Asalaha Bucha Day, Khao Phansa and HM the King’s birthday. Congestion was heavy, but cars did move, albeit slowly.

Pattaya spokesman Pinit Maneerat said city hall dispatched officers to check boats and ensure safety at Bali Hai Pier and at major intersections to keep traffic moving and motorists following safety laws.

Police checkpoints looked for drivers not using helmets or seatbelts and ensuring drivers on long trips home were not drowsy.
