Pattaya is looking for residents with giving hearts, hoping to create its own cadre of volunteers.

Social Work Department Director Phannee Limcharoen chaired a Feb. 8 city hall meeting aimed at organizing a Pattaya Volunteers project. Other bureaucrats attended along with people interested in doing social work for free.

Pannee gave an overview on the meaning of volunteerism and explained that those with the true volunteer spirit don’t expect any compensation for their work other than seeing the happiness of those they help.

Meeting participants discussed criteria for accepting city volunteers, but all that was agreed upon was that they should be loving, kind and have a good heart as well as be ready to understand others’ viewpoint.

No details were provided on when such a program might begin or what the volunteers might do.
