Pattaya officials check Naklua, Nok Yang canal water quality

Pattaya officials checked the quality of water in the Naklua and Nok Yang canals and prepped residents on how to curb pollution while preparing for wastewater treatment.

Wirawat Jirasripaitoon, director of the Pattaya Sanitation Department, spoke Aug. 20 at the at the wastewater treatment plant on Soi Wat Nongyai. He noted that Pattaya has plans to increase the amount of water treated and reused to cope with the city’s growing population.

Plant Director Sompop Wandee said wastewater will be collected, carefully checked and cleared of pollution before being recycled.

Residents increasingly are cooperating by installing wastewater pipes and connecting them directly to the sewage system, which leads to the wastewater plant, he noted. They also pay a fee to have their water treated and recycled.

Officials that day also inspected the Naklua and Nok Yang canals. Instructions and strategies were given to residents on how to keep the water clean and what to use to do so. Locals also were asked to help prevent others from releasing wastewater into natural resources like the beach and reservoirs.

Yutana Thanwongwan, director of the Environment Quality Control Department at the Chonburi Environment Department, used the opportunity to share his experiences and gave a lecture about environmental protection laws.
