Pattaya will distribute more than 1,000 eyeglasses and care packages to poor residents in January.

Deputy Mayor Vichien Pongpanit chaired a planning meeting for the new year’s giveaway with Chonburi welfare officials and leaders of Pattaya’s 42 communities Nov. 27.

Residents must register with city hall or their community office to receive aid. A commission of residents appointed by the city will work with community presidents to choose who receives the 1,100 bags of consumer products and 50 pairs of eyeglasses. The number of people eligible in each community is proportional to that neighborhood’s percentage of Pattaya’s registered residences.

Those approved to receive eyeglasses will take eye examinations Jan. 9 at the Nongprue Sub-district office. The glasses and care packages will be distributed Jan. 25 at Chalermprakiat Park behind Nongprue Kindergarten.
