Chonburi Deputy Gov. Chanchai Iamcharoen said November’s ASEAN International Fleet Review will serve as a forum to increase cooperation among Southeast Asian navies.

The fleet show, scheduled for Nov. 13-22 at Pattaya’s Bali Hai Pier, will be the venue to host the 11th ASEAN Naval Commanders Meeting and the first-ever ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise.

After Thailand hosts the first war games, AMNEX will rotate among the 10 member countries of ASEAN, he said.

As for the naval commander’s meeting, it will reinforce marine stability and create good relationships among ASEAN navies, Chanchai said.

As of March, 30 of 57 countries invited to the international fleet show have accepted. Military officials now expect at least 40 countries to join the festival, making it the largest fleet show of its kind in Asia.

The public portion of the show will feature an international dragon boat race, trade shows, an air race of 20 jets, sailing events, jet-ski racing, cultural and culinary events. It’s also now expected the annual Pattaya International Fireworks Show will be held simultaneously.
