Beaches and byways were packed during Songkran in Pattaya.
Private cars, public transport and tour buses brought Beach Road traffic to a standstill with police doing their best to get things moving. It was nearly as gridlocked on the adjacent sand, with both Thai and foreign tourists soaking up the sun and readying their next water-gun assault on nearby bars.

With the official Songkran holiday falling on Thursday through Saturday, Pattaya’s streets began to fill up the night of April 12 and the traffic jam continued into the long weekend.

Sukhumvit Road, where the Central Road bypass tunnel remained closed, was gridlocked, despite concessions made on detours to speed things along.

Major parades on April 13 didn’t help matters, as police closed parts of Beach Road from Central Road to Walking Street, creating even more traffic havoc.
