Pattaya area donates 1.6 million baht to flood victims

Banglamung residents and businesses donated 1.6 million baht for victims of flooding in southern Thailand.

District Chief Naris Niramaiwong on Jan. 18 reviewed the results of the first round of fundraising, which began two weeks prior.

Flooding has ravaged 12 southern provinces, affecting 395,000 families in 117 districts have been affected, with 31 deaths reported.

Donations poured in from across Banglamung, with the Pattaya Business & Tourism Association donating 100,000 baht, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation 400,000 baht, six local communities 10,000 baht each, Nongprue Sub-district 22,000 baht and the district government kicking in 100,000 baht in Tourist Support funds.

In all, the district collected 1.6 million baht, far above the hoped-for goal of 1 million baht.

Donation centers will remain open as necessary.
