Pattani rubber tapper killed, wife wounded, in gun attack

PATTANI, March 3 -- A villager was shot dead this morning, while his wife was wounded in a gun attack as they were riding to work at a rubber plantation in Pattani's Thung Yang Daeng district.

District police chief Pol Col Kowit Rattanachot said police were informed of the incident n a rubber plantation in Paku subdistrict this morning.

Identified as Sulaiman Hadama, 29, the victim and his wife, Pattama Yuso, had been married only six months.

The police were investigating whether the incident was a personal conflict or an insurgent related attack.

Meanwhile, a bomb disposal unit rushed to the scene after two men on a motorcycle hurled an M26 grenade into a food shop near a school.

The bomb failed to explode, and residents eating at the shop were unharmed. A typewritten note found nearby was collected for further investigation.
