A badly overloaded scrap truck drew the ire of Sattahip motorists who speculated that the dealer was probably trying to save a few baht on fuel costs at the expense of public safety.

The vehicle doesn’t look overly safe on its own merits with or without an oversized load.

The light pickup was seen Nov. 14 on Sukhumvit Road, heading toward Pattaya, near Sukhumvit Soi 41. It was overflowing with recyclable items such as bottles, plastic and metal that was probably accumulated for several days.

The stacks of items were seen at least four meters high and exceeding the sides of the metal bars that were created to hold loads.

Fellow drivers complained that the truck posed a threat to the public and the scrap collector himself, as the wide load obscures the field of view and makes navigating turns perilous.

People speculated the driver was probably cutting back on expenses and conserving petrol by not unloading the truck every day to make a trip worth it.

Unfortunately, it is not an uncommon sight in the kingdom.
