A Samae San shopkeeper was hurt when an ice truck barreled into the front of his Sattahip District grocery store.

The truck owned by Suwit Fishery Co. was carrying more than 190 containers of ice when its brakes failed June 5. Unable to stop, driver Somnuek Kaewkanchana purposely turned the vehicle toward the storefront on Chai Talay Road rather than have it barrel straight ahead onto a crowded pier.

Store owner Somtob Chankram sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

The truck narrowly missed smashing into a dormitory for 10 migrant workers, who escaped injury by about six meters.

Damage was estimated at 100,000 baht. The truck driver stated he was willing to pay for the damage and the insurance would partly cover the damage as well.
