TRANG, 19 October 2014 – The Prince of Songkla University, together with the Department of Science Service, Ministry of Science and Technology held a workshop entitled ‘Management in compliance with the Primary GMP’, to increase competitiveness of Thai products under the One Tambon One Product (OTOP) program as well as safety standards of those goods.

The workshop was conducted by Asst. Prof. Damrong Lohalaksanadech from Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya Trang Campus. The workshop was held in line with the Ministry of Public Health’s policy to strengthen the competitiveness of OTOP food products both in local and global markets by enhancing their quality and safety standard to match those of the Primary Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). The measure is seen to help raise the recognition of Thai OTOP products ahead of the arrival of the ASEAN Community. Participants to the workshop were trained in the production techniques, the selection of related equipment, food-processing in line with the Primary GMP criteria, and how to apply for Thai FDA Licence numbers for processed food.

The entrepreneurs were expected to apply these methods to their industrial plants and encourage other business owners to take similar steps.
