President of the PIDST, Medical Dr. Usa Tissayakorn said that this year the number of dengue fever patients in Thailand was 2-3 times higher than that of last year.
She explained that most of the patients are children aged 10-14 years old, followed by teenagers aged 15-24 and small children aged between 7 and 9 years old. The northeastern region has the highest number of patients, followed by the southern, northern, and central regions respectively.
Dengue fever has multiple levels of severity and is becoming one of the nation's serious public health concerns, as the number of adult and teenager patients rises. The number suggests that the increase is due to the nation's growing population which makes the spread of the disease by means of mosquito becomes easier.
