BANGKOK, 6 March 2013 National Security Council chief Paradorn Pattanthabutr is slated to meet with representatives of rebel group Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) on March 28 in Malaysia.

Mr Paradorn said other insurgent groups will be invited to partake in the formal talks, mediated by Malaysian officials, in a bid to seek a lasting solution to the worsening unrest in the Deep South. The government is determined to adopt a peaceful solution to the crisis, ahead of the formation of ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.

Meanwhile, Southern Border Provinces Police Operation Center Commissioner Pol Maj Gen Chamroon Kachasith said the agency agrees with the NSC's plans to enforce Section 21 of the Internal Security Act (ISA) in wider areas in the violence-plagued border provinces to encourage insurgents to join a peace process.

He urges the government to speed up investigations on uncovering masterminds of militant attacks in the South in a bid to effectively stamp out insurgency.
