BANGKOK, 18 August 2014 – The committee drafting the National Legislative Assembly (NLA)’s meeting regulations has appointed a chairman and has set a timeframe of 15 days for completing its duty.

At the first meeting of the regulation drafting committee, a decision was reached to designate NLA Vice President Peerasak Porjit as the committee chairman. Former Senator Gen Somjet Boonthanom and academic Thaweesak Suthakavathin were appointed the first and second vice chairmen respectively.

According to Mr Peerasak, the operational timeframe of the committee has initially been set at 15 days. Should there be a selection of a new prime minister at the next meeting of the NLA on August 21, he admitted the NLA’s meeting regulations on such procedure would not be finished in time. Under the circumstance, the parliamentary meeting regulations of the 2007 Constitution would be imposed temporarily.
