Nine southern provinces warned of heavy rain, flash flood and forest run-off

SONGKHLA, 28 October 2011  – The southern coast of Thailand is set to experience abundant rain and isolated heavy rainfall due to the influence of moderately high pressure ridge from China.

Mr Wanchai Sakudomchai, Director of the Southern Meteorological Center (East Coast) Songkhla revealed that the westery trough is still covering the North of Thailand, causing cool weather with morning mist over the area during 1-2 days. Meanwhile, the moderate northeast monsoon prevails over the Gulf of Thailand and southern Thailand. Fairly widespread rain and isolated heavy fall are expected over the South’s east coast during 28-31 October 2011. Residents in risk areas which are Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat should be cautious of heavy rain, flash flood and forest run-off.

Moderate wind wave of about 2 meters high is expected in the Gulf of Thailand during this period while the wave should be higher in areas covered with thunderstorms. All ships should proceed with caution.
