BANGKOK, 25 June 2014 – The Comptroller General’s Department (CGD), the Social Security Office (SSO), and the National Health Security Office (NHSO) are drafting a proposal to establish an emergency fund to regulate treatment of emergency patients. Once completed, the proposal will be presented to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) for approval.

The NHSO Secretary General, Dr. Winai Sawaddiworn, said after a meeting of the three units that the meeting found the most common problem that emergency patients usually meet was to be denied treatment or given bills after treatment in private hospitals.

He said that all of the 3 agencies would jointly draw up a guiding principle that would enable hospitals to provide emergency treatment to NHSO and SSO members without a loss. The proposal would include criteria to help reduce hospital expenses and the setting up of a committee responsible for compensating emergency patients who have been charged by hospitals.
